Friends of Barefoot Beach

The Friends of Barefoot Beach, Inc., a non-for-profit organization, 400 families strong organized in 1990 for the purpose of preserving coastal and wetland habitats; specifically one of the last undeveloped southwest Florida barrier islands, Barefoot Beach. The Friends, through one of the most successful letter writing campaigns, convinced the State of Florida and Collier County Governments that this 342-acre barrier island, Barefoot Beach, was a gem worth preserving. The Friends built and manage an Environmental Learning Center at the Preserve in addition to hosting one of the most popular natural history lecture series in the area. They assist with trail maintenance, removal of exotic vegetation, public relations, and marketing. They participate in the annual Coastal Clean-up events. The Friends have established a Foundation to insure that their mission goes on for years to come.
