Beginning Monday, March 22, 2021 construction will begin on the new Caxambas Park Community Center. The 4-acre park has ample parking, boat launch access for easy access to the northern Ten Thousand Islands or the Gulf of Mexico, a marina with concessions for sale including regular and diesel fuel, fishing gear, food, beverages, sunscreen, and a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary building that offers boating and safety classes.
The new, two-story, 2,900-square-foot community center, which will be located next to the existing U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary building will include a large meeting/training room, offices, restrooms, and a small break room. The project covers reconfiguring the parking layout and updating the landscaping.
During construction, the existing building, which houses the Marco Island Flotilla 95, a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary group, will remain in operation until the new community center is built, as will all marina operations, and the majority of parking areas will remain available for park visitors during construction.
On January 27, 2021 the Board of Collier County Commissioners awarded the contract to Fort Construction Group of Naples, Inc. The project is expected to be completed by March of 2022. Once construction begins, there will be machinery and noise during construction hours from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday. No construction is allowed on Sundays or Holidays and any pile driving starts after 9:00 a.m.
